In this new year we are taking our coverage of Indian football to the next level by launching a daily news update page, dedicated specifically to the beautiful game in our country. This news page will be updated on a daily basis with football news from around the country.

Jose Ramirez Barreto is all set to miss the Kolkata Derby on 7th Jan because of a lower back injury. Surkumar Singh also remains a doubt. Mohun Bagan is likely to field Manish Varghav, who has already scored a goal in KFL, in U19 quota while East Bengal will play Lenn in the same quota. Mohun Bagan is also reported to officially unveil a new website this Friday. Subhashis Raychowdhury, who was not registered for I-League by Prayag United, has been taken by Mohun Bagan on loan.
Meanwhile, the Uzbek team of match officials will be practicing in Yuva Bharati turf on Friday. This is the first time a completely foreign team of referee and assistant referees will officiate a derby. Water bottles are banned in the stadium on Saturday and IFA will be providing 30,000 water pouches inside the stadium.

The match between Churchill Brothers and Pailan Arrows was postponed because of PAYKKA (Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan). The event will completed inside YBK premises during the time of Kolkata derby.

Sabbir Ali was officially unveiled as new Southern Samity coach on Thursday. Southern is on the verge of signing Namibian international Alfred Ndyenge. The club is also trying to get a new sponsor.

Lajong FC will finally get the chance to play their I-League matches in the newly constructed astro-turf ground in Shillong. Members from Meghalaya State Government paid a visit to the stadium on Thursday and were reportedly impressed with the ground conditions.

Bayern Munich romped to a 13-0 friendly win over Qatari second division side Al-Sailiya at the Doha training camp with Ivica Olic scoring five goals. This match was part of their practice schedule before taking on India.

Gammy Costa and Valent Silva scored in second half to hand 10 man Margao FC a precious 2-0 win over Santa Cruz Club in GFA Relegation League. SESA FA on the other hand, slumped to a surprise 1-0 defeat against Goa Velha. Goalkeeper Siddhesh Morje was brilliant for the victorious team. Churchill Brothers striker Henri Antchouet has been named in Gabon National Football Team’s 30 man Provisional Squad for African Cup of Nations 2012. Gabon is co-hosting the AFCON with Equatorial Guinea. The 32 year old Henri has played for Gabon before and has 46 International Caps scoring 15 goals.

Arunava Chaudhury reports about massive interest generated by the first training camp of the FCBEscola (FC Barcelona football school) that concluded at The British School, Chanakyapuri in New Delhi. The camp was concluded with 180 youngsters participating. The second camp will take place at The Heritage School in Gurgaon.

Mohun Bagan officials continued their war of letters with IFA on the eve of the Kolkata Derby. The latest letter was sent as a complaint of Bagan not getting money from ticket sales between 2004 and 2007. During that period records were destroyed in IFA office due to a fire. Loss of records prompted IFA to put distribution of gate money on hold. Mohun Bagan complained that they have not been informed about the progress of the investigation IFA launched on this matter at that time. The club also accused some of the IFA officials trying to affect the investigation. Mohun Bagan wants these officials suspended from all sports related activities till the investigation report comes out.

Sabbir Ali replaced Carlos Perreira as Southern Samity coach. Sabbir, who has won the National Football League with Salgaocar will have his first official match against Mohun Bagan on 12th. Southern will be taking part in second division I-League and they are recruiting a Namibian striker to bolster the squad. Ex-East Bengal footballer Sasthi Duley, who has been acting as Southern’s stop gap coach will be Ali’s assistant.

Bengali paper Bartman reports that East Bengal are trying to recruit ex-Sporting Clube de Goa striker Dudu Omagbemi as a replacement of Alan Gow. Dudu formed a lethal combination with Edeh Chidi during his stint in Goa and is currently playing for Finnish club FC Honka.

Karim Bencharifa was visibly relieved after Salgaocar earned a 2-1 victory of Lajong FC. Lajong coach Pradhyuman Reddy was less than impressed with the refereeing and was seen exchanging heated words with the officials after the match. (Report from OHeraldO)

Despite the winter chills Kolkata is warming up to yet another Kolkata Derby. The Kolkata Football League derby takes place on 7th with East Bengal better placed the capture the league crown. Trevor James Morgan spoke to press on Tuesday and tried to downplay the importance of this particular derby saying that he is planning to rest some of the key plyers for this match.
Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan officials have launched yet another letter for IFA before the derby match. Bagan officials have demanded for quality match officials for this game saying that the team was hard done by erroneous refereeing decisions against George Telegraph in a KFL match.
The Kolkata derby will be officiated by Uzbek referee Ravshan Irmatov who was in charge of the Club Wolrd Cup final between Barcelona and Santos few days back. He, along with two other Uzbek match officials will be arriving in Kolkata on Friday. IFA informed that the referees will not be talking to press before the match.

AIFF will be organizing all India U17 football tournament – B.C.Roy Trophy in Siliguri, West Bengal between 18th and 29th January. 16 teams will be participating in this 27 match tournament with matches being held in Kanchejungha and three other stadia. (Report from Andandabazar Patrika)
OHerladO reports the conculsion of 7 day long Panjim Football Camp where over 65 young boys and girls took part.

I-League Second Division might start from first week of Frebruary. Matches are expected to be held in Nagpur, Silchar and Delhi. 24 teams will be divided into 3 groups.

G Football Academy officially tied up with German organization Bharatiya Heilbronn on 2nd January in a press meet in Kolkata. Trijit Das, a former player who played for East Bengal and Mohammedan is the Technical Director of this Academy. Mr Das has travelled around West Bengal for last three months and handpicked 30 players for this Academy. Thanks to this tie-up 18 footballers from this Academy will travel to Germany in June for a two week long camp. It is expected that eminent German ex-players and coaches will give tips and instructions during this camp. (Report from Sangbad Pratidin)

West Bengal State Government has allocated Rs 15 crores to improve the condition of floodlights in Yuva Bharati Krirangan, State Sports Minister Madan Mitra announced on 2nd January. There are plans to renovate Rabindra Saravar Stadium as well.

SESA Academy and Goa Velha picked up valuable wins in relegation match of Kingfisher Goa Pro League. Goa Velha defeated Kalangute Association 2-1 with goals from Trevor Dias and Alber Gonsalves while Olungun Isiah scored Kalangute’s ony goal. SESA triumphed 1-0 over St. Cruz Club of Cavelossim due a late goal from Marcus Fernandes. (Report from OHeraldO)

Keralafootbll.com reports that Malappuram were crowned the Kerala State Sub-junior Champions 2011. They defeated defending champions Kozhikode after a penalty shootout.

I-league 2nd division side Royal Wahingdoh have signed Brazilian Striker Edmilson Marques. The club is yet to announce this on their official site.
Edmilson lastly played for Southern Samity of Kolkata in I-league 2nd div.He has played in I league before for clubs like East Bengal and Prayag United and is known for his Goal scoring abilities.
Royal Wahingdoh on the other hand had a great season and also won the Shillong League in the presence of sides like Lajong FC and Ar Hima.

2nd January, 2011

I-League comes back to action on 2nd January. Both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal face tricky ties against Pune FC and Air India.
Trevor Morgan spoke to the media on the eve of his team’s match against Air India and hoped for a good 2012. Morgan’s practice session didn’t go so smoothly, thanks to the unending logistical mismamagement of authorities. The main dressing room of Yuva Bharati Krirangan was locked and none of the officials were in sight. East Bengal footballers had to wait for a long time in front of the stadium before they settled for a small store room to change their kits.

Meanwhile in Pune, Mohun Bagan coach Subrata Bhattacharya complained bitterly about the condition of practice ground. He commented that he was surprised to see that Pune FC senior team as well as their Academy used the same ground for practice. It should be noted that teams had the same complaint during the Federation Cup’s phase held in Pune.

Amiya Banerjee, a defender who played for Mohun Bagan, East Bengal as well as Mohammedan SC in 50s and 60s, passed away on 31st January. Prasun Banerjee, former India National captain and PK Banerjee’s brother was admitted to a nursing home recently. He has recovered now and expected to be discharged soon.

More details have come out regarding the match on 23rd January which will see a host of International superstars take on Indian players and celebrities in a football match in Yuva Bharati Krirangan.
This match is being termed as ‘Super Football’. The ‘Superstar XI’ is expected to field the likes of Rene Higuita, Paolo Maldini, Cafu, Frank de Boer and Pele, in what will be the Black Pearl’s second visit to the City of Joy. Ruud Gullit will be the acting coach of Superstar XI. Their opponents ‘Indian Dream XI’ will a host of ex-players like Baichung Bhutia, Carlton Chapman, IM Vijayan and Godfrey Perreira. The Indian team will be coached by Shyam Thapa.
A catchy tagline has been released for this match – “Be a Part of History : When Baichung takes on Cafu”. Tickets will be priced Rs. 300 and Rs. 500. VIP tickets will be given out on invitational basis. The first ticket will be handed out to Baichung Bhutia on 6th of January in a press conference. There are plans to auction of footballers’ jersies after the match along with other valuable item. It is believed that legendary German band Scorpions’ guitar will also go up for auction.

Beto and Jose Barreto’s Brasil Futbol Academia has already garnerned a lot of attention in Indian football circuits. The duo have taken another step develop young talents by launching a football school to cater to players between ages 6 and 12. The school will be managed by Glauco Moraes. OHeraldO reports that the school will have two hour sessions to improve core skills of footballers. It will start from 2nd January at the Chowgule Sports and Fitness Center, Margao.
