Climax Lawrence quit International football after being snubbed from the India squad for AFC Challenge Cup. Lawrence criticized Medeira’s decision to drop him from 30 man provisional squad. The combative midfielder had a long and celebrated career with the national team and played crucial parts in India’s Nehru Cup victories in 2007 and 2009 as well as AFC Challenge Cup in 2008.

AIFF has asked IFA to change the name of Premier League Soccer and asked them to include words “Bengal” or “IFA” in front of the name. IFA has refused to accept their proposal so far. Meanwhile, in a first in Indian football, a London based firm will be selling out TV rights for this tournament. It is being rumoured that PLS will be telecasted in 50 countries accross the world. In another first in Indian Football, a player was signed before the European teansfer window closed on 31st January. Hernan Crespo, who was part of the Parma squad in Serie A signed for Barasat Franchisee on last day of the transfer window.

AIFF U14 Football Festival kicked off in Kalyani, West Bengal on Tuesday. West Bengal State Sports Minister inaugurated the event. Colm Toal and Scott O’Donell were also present in this tournament. Each match is 30 minutes long. Bengal started the event in style by dispatching Jammu and Kashmir 7-0 with a hattrick from Saif Hussain. Goa started their campaign by thumping Pondicherry 8-0 thanks to a hattrick by Kapil Hoble. They drew 1-1 with Uttarakhand in another match on the same day. A lot of interest has been generated in Kalyani for this tournament.

India will not be travelling to England to prepare for AFC Challenge Cup, as proposed earlier. The tour has been cancelled due to internal problems of Blackburn Rovers. AIFF is looking to organize more matches when India travel to to Dubai to play Oman.

East Bengal fans were once again involved in angry protests after their loss to Prayag United. A number of players like Gurpreet, Mehtab, Sanju Pradhan as well as coach Trevor Morgan were subjected to their abuses after the match was over.
