Ryan Bertrand follows in Ashley Cole’s footsteps while Gordon Banks says David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard aren’t reliable enough; all this and much more in TheHardTackle’s daily news update.
Latest Twitter Victim Ryan Bert‘rant’
Ashley Cole recently lashed out at the FA. The controversy has barely passed us by and ‘understudy’ Ryan Bertrand also got in on the act yesterday. Bertrand pulled out of England’s World Cup qualifying game against mighty San Marino and was apparently subjected to some questioning on Twitter as to why he pulled out with just a ‘sore throat’. Left-backs at Chelsea do not take kindly to ‘liar’ accusations and therefore, Ryan Bertrand decided to respond in customary Chelsea left back style.
He said on Twitter – “Do you think a “sorethroat” could stop me being apart of a match for my club or country? #yourf******nuts this is what every boy dreams of”
An apology followed shortly after – “sorry if i offended anyone by swearing as i don’t encourage that type of language. was just disappointed at the thought of people thinking i only have a sore throat.. which is not the case”
In light of such recent incidents, there must be a debate about whether players should be allowed to use Twitter at all or if usage of the social networking website should be regulated by their parent clubs.
David De Gea And Anders Lindegaard Not Bankable
Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that recruiting a reliable Goal Keeper was his Achilles heel. If he is relieved by De Gea’s progress and Anders Lindegaard’s fiercely competitive attitude, that would surprise Gordon Banks. England’s 66’ World Cup winning goalkeeper Gordon Banks reckons that both the keepers at Manchester United aren’t good enough and has further gone on to suggest that Ferguson made an error by not signing Manchester City’s Joe Hart while the keeper was at Shrewsbury Town.
Here’s what he said – “I am not sure about the two keepers at United, not at all. Sir Alex Ferguson could have got a better keeper than either of them. I am sure he wishes he had signed Joe, who is the best English goalkeeper by a mile and could become the best in the world. He is now making terrific saves for Manchester City, while these lads at United look as if they can let in important goals.”
Bolton Sack Owen Coyle, Mick McCarthy Poised To Take Over
Bolton ended their two and a half year association with Owen Coyle after a poor start to the Championship season which sees the Trotters in 18th place after earning just 11 points from their opening 10 games. Former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has been mooted as the leading contender for the manager’s post at the Reebok Stadium. Other candidates Roy Keane, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Steve Bruce and Alan Curbishley have also been linked. However, it’ll be interesting to see if any of them opt for the irresistible opening at Blackburn Rovers instead.
Del Piero Rejected Liverpool Due To Heysel Tragedy
Allesandro Del Piero revealed that he rejected advances from Liverpool this summer due to the respect he had for those who had suffered in the Heysel Tragedy. Thirty Nine Juventus fans lost their lives before the start of the European Cup final in 1985 in which the Old Lady was facing Liverpool. The Italian legend is left with a sour taste in his mouth due to his exit from beloved Juventus, however he states that he remains happy with the decision he took to move to Australian club Sydney FC.
“Juventus and Liverpool have been able to rebuild their relationship, but that tragedy will forever be on the mind of many people. I thank all the clubs which wanted me, but I’m convinced of my choice. One month is not much to make judgments, but the beginning is comforting from every point of view. The farewell to Juve still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. One year and a half ago I would not have imagined that this would happen, then things change. I still have the great satisfaction of having given everything I could for Juventus” said Del Piero.
