New Delhi, India – After a weekend full of stunning football action in the heart of the capital, “TheHardTackle Corporate Cup 2012” was deservedly lifted by Ascent International late into the evening of March 4, 2012.
Plaza Farms, the setting for the first edition of the tournament, was lit up with a festive atmosphere of over 300 people per day and fiercely competitive games. Aside from a little ‘argy-bargy’ in a couple of matches indicating the participants’ will to win, the Cup was played in incredible spirit.
After dominating the rest of the field throughout the tournament, Ascent International convincingly defeated Sanskriti Overseas in the final of the Gold Cup competition to be crowned the overall champions. It was the ideal final that saw the two best teams in the competition face each other.
In a competition format that rewarded participation and not just victories, the first, second and third placed teams in the eight groups went into the Gold Cup, Silver Cup and Bronze Cup competitions, while the fourth-placed teams in the group were eliminated.
Futures First lifted the Silver Cup defeating Emergent Ventures in the final, while the Bronze Cup was won by S&R Associates, who defeated Capital IQ in the final.
The winning teams received a combined 60,000 INR in cash prizes and each winner received free subscriptions of India’s premier football magazine ’90 minutes’.
However, there was something special in store for individual performances. Valdecir Freitas (Sanskriti Overseas) was adjudged to be the ‘Best Player of the Tournament’ and Sudeep Pant (Ascent International) received the ‘Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament’ award. While the former received a football personally signed by Indian football legend Baichung Bhutia, the latter received gloves signed by the same great man.
TheHardTackle Corporate Cup will be back soon with another edition, in New Delhi or other major cities of India. This was just the beginning.
Pictures of the tournament will be uploaded soon.
