Champions League: Quarter-Final Draw

The draw is out. The English teams can’t meet each other before the Finals at The Santiago Bernabeau. Arsenal will have to overcome Spanish powerhouse and current holders Barcelona which will ideally be a revenge of the 2006 Final, while United will try a repeat of the 1999 Finale, trying to outdo the Germans from Munich.

Inter Milan will try their best to make the most from their home match at the San Siro, before they travel to the chilly Russian capital to lock horns with CSKA Moscow. And finally, the French clubs fight it out for the last Semi-final berth as Lyon host Bordeaux in the first leg.

The fixture-list is shown below (Home-team first):

Semi-Finals (Upper Half of the draw):

Arsenal vs Barcelona

Inter Milan vs CSKA Moscow

Semi-Finals (Lower Half of the draw):

  • Dhawal

    Lyon v Bordeaux
Bayern Munich v Man Utd (’99 Final revisited)
Arsenal v Barcelona (’06 Final revisited)
    Inter v CSKA

    Tough draw for English teams.

  • Dhawal

Winner of Lyon v Bordeaux will play Winner of Bayern Munich v Man Utd in Semi final 1
Winner of Arsenal v Barcelona will play Winner of Inter v CSKA in Semi final 2

Very interesting plot for the competition.

  • Somnath

There is a chance that Grp League ties of Bayern – Bordeaux & Barca – Inter will get repeated.

  • @Somnath: I sincerely hope that doesn’t happen! 😐

  • The biggest question on my mind now is will Barca become the first team to win the UCL back to back or will it be Inter under JoMo winning it. As of today I would put all my money on Barca unless Arsenal can spring a surprise.
Bayern vs Manu was acceptable but Lyon vs Bordeaux in QF stage was unfair they should also be given a chance to meet in the Semis or finals.

  • @Sriram… I think you completely underestimated United. With the form that they are in right now, I see them lifting the cup. Although, Barca definitely is one helluva team.

  • In England however, ‘Never write off the Germans’ is a refrain; so, you never know!

  • Kripky

I think Man United should just think about containing Robben, that shud be it! After that, it’s a decent run-in to the Bernabeau.

  • @Dhawal… I guess I will have to disagree with you on the form of Manu part…it is Rooney who is in form of his life which makes Manu look like in great form and if they play Barca it will be Rooney vs the Barca team which doesnt look like a contest at all, but true miracles happen in football all the time.

  • Somnath

Barca too are looking like mainly Messi at times, Bayern look like mainly Robben, Inter mainly Sneijder πŸ˜›

  • inter might face barca in the semis.. which i think should have been the final

  • Dhawal

@Somnath… True that… All the big guns are firing from the shoulder of one player only. πŸ˜›
Messi however is firing like an automatic AK-47 at the moment… 11 goals of Barca’s 14 in the last 5 games.
