ROUND 16

VIVA KERALA v CHURCHILL BROTHERS

Fresh from their surprise win over Dempo in round-15, Viva will look to cause another upset against the current champions. In-form centre back duo of Charles Dzisah and Bello Rassaq will be their key strength. On the other hand Churchill will look to carry the good form forward and will once again bank on the Kalu-Odafa recipe upfront. Viva coach Sreedharan knows very well that their fight for survival will depend heavily on positive results on home soil. That is why Viva will try their best to make life difficult for the champions in Kerala.

TheHardTackle’s PREDICTION: VIVA KERALA 1 – 2 CHURCHILL BROTHERS

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

EAST BENGAL v MAHINDRA

East Bengal is a devastated side at this moment after losing their last two I-League games and their opening AFC Cup encounter. Mahindra, on the other hand, are playing like a well-oiled machine and would look to grab the top spot of the I-League by defeating the Kolkata giants at their own backyard. The only concern for David Booth’s side might be their dismal performances in Kolkata. East Bengal have nothing to lose. They will look to regain their lost pride and bring their derailed campaign back on track. And that’s where they can be dangerous. For Mahindra, Muritala Ali and Mohammed Rafi are in the form of their life and Steven Dias supporting them very well. East Bengal would look to gain inspiration from talismanic striker Baichung Bhutia and Yusif Yakubu.

TheHardTackle’s PREDICTION: EAST BENGAL 2—2 MAHINDRA

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

AIR INDIA v PUNE FC:

Pune FC fought well to earn a point from Mohun Bagan in their last round encounter. They would look to consolidate their standings by securing three points from this match. Pune’s defense is their core strength and if they can grab a goal from somewhere, it will be tough for their opposition to find the equalizer. Air India, currently just 2 points above the relegation zone, would like to salvage atleast a single point from this tie to keep them floating away from the relegation battle.

TheHardTackle’s PREDICTION: AIR INDIA 0 –1 PUNE FC

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

SHILLONG LAJONG v SPORTING CLUB:

Fresh from their confidence boosting win over East Bengal, Lajong FC will try to win another match by exploiting the home conditions. Sporting Club is yet to bag their first win in this campaign after a last minute heartbreak against Mumbai FC in the previous match. But the high altitude of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong is bound to dampen their spirits. Lajong will rely on Dainel Bidemi and Anil Gurung to produce a result in their favor.

TheHardTackle’s PREDICTION: SHILLONG LAJONG 0 – 0 SPORTING CLUB

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

SALGAOCAR v DEMPO:

After the shock defeat against Viva in their last match, Dempo will look to regain their composure and ensure maximum points from this encounter. Beto is fully fit and expected to start the match with Coach Armando Colaco expecting another stealer performance from the Brazilian playmaker. Salgaocar are yet to win their first match under the new coach Karim Bencherifa and will like to draw inspiration from their last leg performance against JCT.

TheHardTackle’s PREDICTION: SALGAOCAR 1 – 2 DEMPO

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

JCT v MOHUN BAGAN:

JCT showed a lot of mental strength to pull off a draw against Salgaocar in the previous round, despite going down to 10 men after Gurpreet Singh was given the marching orders. They always play well at home and Mohun Bagan will have to be at their attacking best to crack JCT’s strong defense. Edeh Chidi will be available in this match for Bagan and his combination with Barreto upfront can run any defense into trouble. JCT goalkeeper Karanjeet, MOM in last match, can expect another tough outing.

TheHardTackle’s PREDICTION: JCT 0 – 2 MOHUN BAGAN

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

MUMBAI FC v CHIRAG UNITED:

Mumbai FC managed to escape defeat against Sporting in round-15, thanks to an injury time equalizer. They will be playing against Chirag at their home ground, where their record has been impressive throughout the season. Chirag got stricken by the Odafa thunderstorm in last match and got thrashed by Churchill Brothers by 2-4 margin. The unavailability of inform striker Edmilson is a massive blow to Chirag going into this match. The Brazilian is suspended after getting a straight red card in their lost campaign against the champions. The ongoing controversy with respect to their coach Subrata Bhattacharya is also affecting their composure ahead of this important tie.

TheHardTackle’s PREDICTION: MUMBAI FC 2 – 2 CHIRAG UNITED

  • Soccerfan

Churchill survived a scare and drew against Viva yesterday…

  • MBFan

Mohun Bagan will be the I-League CHAMPS this time… East Bengal is going to get thrashed by Mahindra today… :)

    My predictions: EB 0-3 Mahindra / AI 1-1 Pune FC / Lajong 2-0 Sporting / Salgaocar 1-1 Dempo, JCT 0-3 MB / Mumbai FC 2-1 Chirag…

EB should be ashamed of themselves for making a mockery of the nation’s pride in AFC…

  • Biplab

@MBfan, get off ur high horse, Mr Lunatic!

    My predictions — EB 3-2 Mahindra / AI 0-1 Pune FC / Lajong 1-0 Sporting / Salgaocar 1-3 Dempo, JCT 1-0 MB / Mumbai FC 2-2 Chirag

  • DiggDempo

Both EB & MB r equally pathetic.
Future of indian football is Goa. Kolkata clubs r unprofessional.

  • MBFan

    Agreed!!!

But we require professional approach in football administration all over the country. One can’t really distinguish between Kolkata and Goa or Mumbai… In my opinion all the clubs are being poorly managed… not surprising though, given the unprofessional approach our governing body AIFF…

  • MBFan

small typo in the last line… plz read it as…

//not surprising though, given the unprofessional approach OF our governing body AIFF…//

  • DiggDempo

Our fundamental concept of club management is erroneous to say that least. but goan clubs r now-a-days trying to bring in professionalism in their administration by appointing qualified professionals, whereas kolkata clubs r still living in their past glories and outdated artifacts, and sadly i do not see any change in their mentality/thinking even today.

  • Biplab

Rightly said DD!!! These corrupted officials should be kicked out immediately for a better future of the games in this country.

  • Biplab

BTW, what time is the EB-Mahindra match today??? Is it coming live on Zee Sports???? I searched in the Z-Sports website, but programme schedules r not updated. :(

  • DiggDempo

EB-Mahindra match is scheduled at 4:30 pm. as this is d only match for today, z-sports should telecast this.

  • Soccerfan

It’s still goal-less at halftime mark in Kolkata betn East Bengal and Mahindra United.

  • Soccerfan

After completely dominating the proceedings for almost the entire match, EB scores in the 58th min. Mehtab Hussain is the scorer.

  • Soccerfan

Md Rafi equalizes for Mahindra – in 74th min. exciting attacking match going on.

  • Soccerfan

Final score EB 1–1 Mahindra. TheHardTackle.com prediction of a draw betn the two teams comes true. Mehtab Hussain of East Bengal is declared MOM.

  • MBFan

So EB huffed & puffed and begged… errr bagged one point??? 😛

  • DiggDempo

that’s been harsh on ’em. east bengal dominated the match right from thw word go. poor finishing let ’em down.

  • DiggDempo

today we hv 3 matches scheduled. my predictions:
    AI-0 v Pune-2
    Salgaocar-0 v Dempo-3 :)
    Lajong-1 v Sporting-1

  • MBFan

My previous comment was directed to “the special one”… pride of nation… lolzzz… 😉

I think Sal-Dempo and AI-Pune match will be boring draws… personally wishing for a dempo defeat… Lajong to come out victorious against sporting…

  • Biplab

@MbFan: Ur junk comments perfectly reflects ur poor football accumen. Did u even bother to catch a glimpse of the match before commenting??? Not expected of you, though. Anyway, as I said previously also, let the “PIG” enjoy himself.

Coming into the match, EB deserved to win the match, unfortunate for the boys that they had to share points. We dominated the entire match and hit the post a couple of times, hard luck! :(

    Today’s predictions:
Pune to win over AI by atleast 2 goals.
Dempo badly need to win this one, and they will.
Sporting to register their 1st win in I-League.

  • Biplab

personally wishing for a dempo defeat

ONLY IF WISHES WERE HORSES 😉

  • DiggDempo

    lol 😀

  • MBFan

Keep LOL-ing… but without Sunil Chetri, Dempo is a medicore unit… and with Sunil expected to join Kansas City in US League, I do not see a chance for Dempo to keep the top spot in the league table..

Mohun Bagan will clinch the title, take my words…

  • Biplab

    Nostradamus in making 😀

  • ManUtdForeever

    And Dempo lost… @MBFan, do u hav all 32 teeth??? 😛

  • ManUtdForeever

    Yesterday’s results:

Shillong Lajong FC 0-0 Sporting Goa
Air India FC 1-0 Pune FC
    Salgaocar S.C 3-2 Dempo SC

    Today’s match:

JCT v/s Mohun Bagan (My Prediction: 1-1)

  • Biplab

Well, a classic case of jackfruit murdering a rabbit by falling on it :)

  • MBFan

Sad… Mohun Bagan lost the chance to close the gap… Barreto missed the penalty… imo he should not take penalty anymore… this is his 3rd miss in this season… :(

  • Biplab

Seems MbFan is frustrated with their “Green Parrot”! :)

Do not look for excuses and accept the plain fact that MB did not deserve to win the match. They were pathetic and the foul that resulted in the penalty was non-existant. Chidi should try his hand in Hollywood, such a fine actor! ;P

Today we hav the last match of R-16 betn Chirag and Mumbai. I hope Chirag wins and MB falls back to 5th spot in the standings! What say our very own Nostradamus? 😀

  • Biplab

Admin, East Bengal’s 2nd AFC Cup match is tomorrow at Beirut, Lebanan. But I can’t see any preview write-up for the match. Please post something abt the opponent and our preparations.

  • @ Biplab
Deb is on it, very soon you shall have the preview :)

  • Soccerfan

Chirag pulled of a 2-0 win over Mumbai FC and moves up to the 3rd spot in the standings.
